How to use it

One line per subtitle, or flowing text
By default each subtitle becomes its own line, which mirrors the file and is easy to scan against the video. Turning on merging joins everything into continuous prose instead — better when you want to paste the transcript into a document, a blog post or a summariser.
Keeping timecodes
Timecodes are removed by default. Turn them back on if you need to find a moment in the video again — each line is then prefixed with its start time, which makes the transcript useful for pulling clips or writing show notes.
Formatting tags are stripped
Italic and bold tags, ASS positioning overrides like {\an8}, and VTT inline timing tags are all removed, so you get clean prose rather than markup. Whatever the source file was styled with, the output is plain text.
Why transcripts are worth having
A transcript is the reusable form of a video. It becomes the blog post, the newsletter, the description, the captions for a repost, or the notes you search months later. Pulling it from a subtitle file you already have costs nothing.
Questions
Does this work with VTT as well as SRT?
Yes. Both formats are accepted and produce the same plain-text output.
Are duplicate lines merged?
No. Every subtitle becomes one line, in file order, so the transcript matches the video exactly. Karaoke-style captions that repeat a line word by word will therefore repeat here too — those are better handled by exporting a caption-per-line subtitle file in the first place.
Can I get a transcript straight from a video?
Not with this tool, which only reformats a subtitle file you already have. Viten transcribes video directly and can export the subtitle file for you.
Is anything uploaded?
